The Fourth

We have had a very rainy start to the summer.  This year I asked the kids if they wanted to go to the town parade for the fourth of July, as it was drizzling and there was a chance that it would only get worse but all of them said they wanted to go.  Their desire to keep with tradition always amazes me and makes me so incredibly happy.  We loaded up our things and went down to the library to watch our tiny town have an even tinier parade but it was so much fun.  It was fun to be together, to be as a community again, and to celebrate the fourth.  Last year all of the fourth of July celebrations were canceled throughout the country so while our town only had a parade of emergency vehicles and a few other individual families who chose to be in it, it was still more than the year before.  The same was to be said about our fireworks.  Yes, they lit off the finale in the beginning and only a few after that but heck, it was still better than 2020.  We had fun celebrating together and no matter how imperfect it was, it was so much better to be able to gather as a community than to not be.  I will be happy at this moment because I now understand that all of this is not a guarantee.
