My mom has a way of being the most influential person in my life, and she rarely has to say a word. She doesn't jump up and scream support to tell me what I am doing is right and yet she never had to yell to tell me what I was doing was wrong. She has always led by example. She taught us when it is time to be submissive and when it is time to stick to your guns by showing us in her conversations. She would spend her day driving us around from activity to activity, even though I am sure she just wanted to relax after a long day at work, but she was constantly showing us that we were her top priority. She showed us that dinner didn't come from a fast food restaurant but came from a family gathered in a kitchen cooking together. She would drive me to a different time church service then the one she was attending because she wanted to encourage my passion for Christ even if it was inconvenient. She insisted for years that she didn't want a dishwasher, simply because she treasured the time with me and my sisters gathered together talking while we cleaned the dirty plates. She never let us have TV's in our room because the time we spent at home should be time spent together. She would let me and my sisters argue things out, because she knew that learning to resolve our own arguments when we were young would help us in our future. She would tell me that all my friends could come over and hang out(which on most weekends was at minimum 20 kids) because she knew that giving us a safe place to be was worth all the noise we created and food we ate. She let me go on a summer long mission trip even though it made her hurt from missing me so much, because she believed that doing something good was much more important then doing something easy. She kissed us good night every night (no matter how old) because no matter what had happened in the day the love from her to us had never wavered. She is, in short, an absolutely amazing mother. I feel lucky everyday to have her as my mom and my friend. Happy Birthday Mom! I love you!
