Distance is Hard

Distance is hard. There's no way of saying it other than that. When Nate travels we miss him and he misses us and it is a hard time for everyone At home we have to break up our usual routine and do things differently.

We have sleepovers in my bed and send Nate good morning texts.

We take group photos every day just so Nate can see the kids smiling.

We break rules and allow texting at the dinner table simply because the kids want to tell Dad about their day over dinner.

We text Nate multiple hairstyle photos because Aliya really wants his help to pick which one is perfect for picture day.

We wear Nate's clothes because they're just more comfy and feel like a hug from him.

We get donuts and other surprises just to break up the long days.

We do a really late night movie marathon because it is Friday family fun night and we miss dad and we need a good reason to smile.

We make our favorite dinners together and tell Nate all about what we cooked.

We take on insane late night projects just because we are having trouble sleeping.

Thankfully all these little changes makes the time pass by and eventually Nate returns home. As soon as he does smiling take no effort at all...

because closeness is easy and such a wonderful thing.
