Negative Can Be A Good Thing

We have caught our first sickness since last February. Between wearing masks and washing our hands constantly we thought we may never get sick again, but all good things must come to an end.  Our family had sore thoughts, runny noses, and the dreaded cough.  Needless to say, we had to get covid tested to be certain it was only a cold, even though that was our expectation.  Trent and Aliya were the first to show signs of sickness so they were our unwilling volunteers into the Covid testing world.  Getting a test was more of a process than I thought it would be. Our doctor's office did not have any availability for testing for 3 days and results would take 5-7 days after that, so we decided to find another option.  We did find an urgent care facility that could get us in on the same day and do a rapid test on the kids.  We had to fill out a form online and that was followed by a phone call to confirm the information and schedule a telehealth appointment.  The telehealth doctor spoke with the kids and me through a video call and gave us an appointment for testing at the facility. We then went to that appointment and waited in our car, for two hours before receiving the test and then one more short wait of 20 minutes for results. None of it was very complicated or hard to do, it was just not a speedy of a process as I had first imagined. However, I was extremely thankful for those working and helping with the process, from the online doctors, to the school nurses, and the nurses that administered the test, we realized just how many people are doing a whole different job then they were a year ago and how lucky we are to have a world filled with so many good people.  The kids and I sat in the car in a parking lot full of other people waiting for their Covid tests as well and while it is still a strange world to live in, we actually enjoyed our time there together.  We laughed and chatted and in the end the kids were happy to report that the test didn't hurt at all. Some things about life right now are so different, some have slowly become a new normal and some things like the laughter of my kids in the car, just don't change and I am thankful for that.
